Dinnerly

Alrighty, it's time for another meal subscription kit review. Before I get into it, let's recap the standings (including where Dinnerly falls).

  1. Home Chef

  2. Hello Fresh

  3. Dinnerly

  4. Green Chef

  5. Blue Apron

Let's start with the not so great things:

  1. The box always looked like it had been dropped 1743985 times. Seriously, the boxes looked SO raggedy. I don't know if it's that it is made from a more thin material or if it's that there was a cold bag within and not insulation supporting the box on the inside.

  2. The app is not very intuitive and it's just not a good UX from a design point of view, and, the only way to get the instructions for the meals is through the app, so that does make it tricky when my husband is cooking. So, I have to tell him which meal to make/the name so that he can Google it and find the instructions. It's not a make or break, but it's not exactly awesome.

And now for the eh:

  1. They don't separate out each of the ingredients, so when you get a box it's just all in there together. I separate them all out to make it easier to find later by putting the ingredients for each of the meals in a basket (thanks Dollar Tree). Not a major issue, and I know by sending a whole head of garlic instead of multiple small bags it's better for the environment.

And, for the good:

  1. There are a ton of options and the food is good. The quality of the ingredients is great - especially the meat quality, and that's a huge plus for me.

  2. The quantity of food in each meal is enough that I can get two meals out of it, well, most of them are. So that allows me to sometimes make one of the them for lunch or make one for dinner and have leftovers for the next day.

  3. The price! Y'ALL! $4.89 per serving. So I spend on a meal for the two of us what other places charge for ONE plate. They do charge $9 for shipping, but it's still worth it.

So, if you want to give it a try for yourself, grab a FREE box here.
